I know to my core that volunteering is important. The real secret about volunteering is to find what you are passionate about and use that joyful skill to help others.
Navigating the “hard knocks of life” apparently set Tami Leather’s compass toward the true north of helping others. Like many who volunteer, her start in life was tough and wrought with the instability of welfare and foster care as a result of her mother’s disabilities and illnesses. She lost her mother and grandmother 23 days apart, as a young adult. She subsequently lost her father and other “rocks” in her support system.
Tami began donating blood in the early 1980’s. Her real passion for donating blood ignited when she joined the Blood Drive Committee at Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. (a Johnson and Johnson Company) in Titusville, New Jersey over 20 years ago. In 2010 Tami was recognized by the Red Cross with the Pacesetter Award for her efforts to grow platelet and whole blood collections and championing the Red Cross mission.
“I donate blood because I can and it’s an easy thing to do to that saves lives. It is so critically important,” said Tami.
Tami is passionate about promoting blood donations, and comes up with incentives and marketing ideas to engage prospective donors. She has been an effective role model as a regular blood and platelet donor, and has 120 donations through December 2016 which she boasts on social media! She also projects her passion in her business signature with a daily call to donate “I Give Blood. Will You?”
Tami’s husband and best ‘rock’ will be travelling with her on our Celebrity Cruise. We hope she uses the ARC Blood Donation app and has called for the Cabot Cheese coupon as her reward for giving and inspiring others to give and use the app. Loss set Tami on a beautiful course to inspire others to save lives by giving blood. Bring your donor cards on the cruise and see if you can beat her record.
