Educator at heart and executive by trade, Rich was a tenured professor of Agricultural Economics at Rutgers University for more than a decade before leaving academia for the farmers of Agri-Mark in 1982. With his PhD in Economics, he first served as SVP of Economics and Communications, passed through a 27 year phase as COO and CEO simultaneously before redefining yet again, his maximum contribution to the farmers. When the farmers wouldn’t let him retire, Richie became the company's first Executive Senior VP of Special Projects in May 2015.
So you can appreciate his true gifts, please know that only Rich first saw and defined the synergies of merging two legacy New England cooperatives – Agri-Mark and Cabot – in the early 90's. Part "reward", part "challenge" for his hard work to make the merger happen, he accepted the presidency of Cabot Creamery Co-operative while maintaining his roles with Agri-Mark as COO. Rich was then named CEO of both the farmers' and the brand side of the business. This past May, Rich worked for several years to shape his latest challenge as Executive Senior Vice President of Agri-Mark and continues to serve the Board of Directors, CEO Ed Townley, CFO Matt Hendricks and COO Jeff Saforek in a strategic position that takes full advantage of his 35 years of service to Agri-Mark and his 45 years of knowledge of the complexities of dairy and manufacturing industries.
Rich's wife Arlene, is joining us on the cruise. Arlene has been a highly valued ad hoc member of the marketing team for many years.
