Life can come at you so suddenly. You bring your daughter to the doctor
because she has a back ache, and then they tell you she has cancer.
Rene and her daughter Alicia, a cancer survivor, co-founded The Honeysuckle Foundation for Children with Cancer in 2003. Alicia will be joining Rene on the cruise.
The Honeysuckle Foundation provides help with the quality of life issues that face families dealing with a pediatric cancer, and addresses many of the social and emotional issues that are often overlooked when a child is diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Rene, the author of Alicia's Updates: A Mother's Memoir of a Pediatric Cancer, had her book translated into Japanese recently after a request by the University of Tokyo Hospital. The hospital now uses the book for newly diagnosed pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Rene sits on the board of her family's educational foundation, and has also become a Parkinson's and Guardianship abuse advocate. She lives in Naples, Florida, and Alicia attends the University of Florida in Gainesville.
