When it comes to pairing great wines with great cheeses, few can dish like Nancy Wright and Steve Lidle. With more than 50 years combined wine and cheese expertise, this sometimes zany, sometimes serious, but always entertaining duo brings an eclectic experience to dining. The farmers who own Cabot Creamery know a perfect pair when they meet one - and after selling thousands of pounds of Cabot Cheddar at their Vermont wine and cheese shop - Steve and Nancy know Cabot’s “World’s Best Cheddar” pairs perfectly with a variety of wine. Steve, a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran and a sculpture teacher trained in Italy, moved to Vermont in 1980. Having grown up in his family's grocery store in Pennsylvania, he became involved with the Vermont food scene. Steve worked as a chef at a ski lodge in Stowe, and in 1991, opened his very popular retail store, Cheese Traders & Wine Sellers.
Steve and Nancy volunteered with Roberta a few years ago to benefit our local Hospice during the holidays. She asked them immediately if they’d be willing to leverage their fantastic cheese expertise on behalf of our Cabot farmers. And if Steve would grow a beard. They agreed enthusiastically. They became our Plaid Santa and Mrs. Claus at grocery stores and major events, dazzling folks with their big hearts and passion for supporting the farmers. Ask them about their work for hospice, Circus Smirkus, water quality in Lake Champlain, Vermont and what it’s like to show off the farmers’ plaid at high altitude.
