So far, our group has knitted 2,499 caps for newborns at the recently constructed hospital in Maple Grove. It’s a labor of love for us.
Molly spent 35 years as a nurse, retiring in 2002. She quickly got involved with AARP. In fact, she got more than involved. She founded her own chapter in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Molly's AARP chapter includes a cadre of expert knitters, so when the administrator at the local hospital mentioned that they needed caps for their newborns, Molly jumped in. So far they've knitted over 2,500 caps, each one unique. Molly also draws on her vast nursing experience to speak with seniors about health care, Medicare, medical fraud, and related issues. The chapter she founded now supports local food drives, sponsors monthly speakers for their chapter and elderly groups, and is actively engaged in state and federal legislation.
