The program fills the kids with joy and smiles. It’s a lot of work, but I love it.
Maria and her husband have a teenage special needs son. About six years ago, Maria took it upon herself to provide an outlet for special needs children in her neighborhood.
She started a program to help them learn and engage in sporting activities. Over the past years, this has grown into the "Land and Sea Sports Club," which now has 350 families participating. Many of the children are autistic. The club teaches children how to swim and offers lessons in dance, movement, yoga, karate, surfing, and sailing. It also involves the kids in team sports like soccer and basketball. She has managed to get the use of most of the facilities the club needs for free.
