Big things can come from small beginnings, and The Common Good Café has been a joy to develop and bring to the town.
Larry and a close friend started out making gourmet soup for needy people and brought it to a senior citizen's complex as a gift. Soon they secured a vacant restaurant on the waterfront free of charge and began serving soup, requesting only whatever donations people could afford. The word quickly spread, and people began to gather at "The Common Good Café." Over time, they began to serve other organic, high quality foods and started to offer entertainment. All money received goes right back into the cafcafé. Neither Larry nor Bill takes a salary. Recently they formed a 501(c)(3) charity and also co-wrote an inspiring book entitled Cooking for the Common Good, which describes their recipes and their journey.
