If you are part of a community you have to contribute no matter what, we have to work together to help others.
Kori Redepenning has spent the past 14 years serving young people in the communities of Boston and the twin cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul through her work with Peace First, the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, and the Minnesota Alliance With Youth.
Her passion for giving back to her community started at a young age as her father was quite involved in public life and encouraged supporting local communities. That passion only grew as Kori went through college and travelled abroad. She decided she wanted to use her education to work in the public sector.
“We are all in this together and it is not somebody else’s responsibility,” said Kori. “It’s part of our collective responsibility. People can’t just contribute when things are going well, if you are part of a community you have to contribute no matter what, we have to work together to help others.”
Kori started her career as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Boston, working to recruit volunteers to deliver violence prevention curriculum to young people. Her passion for helping youth never faded as she now serves as the Vice President of Mission Advancement at the Minnesota Alliance With Youth where she creates systems to incorporate youth voice into Minnesota’s legislative process, the philanthropic community, and the Minnesota Department of Education.
As an affiliate of America’s Promise, she speaks to the value the organization brings to national youth matters.
“The goal is to help children become successful adults,” Kori said. “America’s Promise thoughtfully provides research around young people and their needs and allows us to act on those needs.”
When not helping today’s youth become the leaders of tomorrow, Kori loves to explore the outdoors no matter the season. She also has 14 nieces and nephews she loves checking up on! She will be joined on the cruise by her wife Sarah Davis.
