Volunteering is a wonderful tonic for the soul. It helps the community, sets an example for others, and uplifts your spirits personally. It’s win-win for everybody.
After Yvette was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she learned that her only treatment option was exercise. She made it her mission to clean up her local park as she walked and exercised. With a large plastic bag in one hand and a gripper in the other, Yvette started a daily routine that included not only walking in the park but personally clearing it of all litter in her path.
Over time, Yvette also befriended the animals in the park. If an animal is wounded or sick, she brings it to the area vet for treatment. Yvette is not only the "local park ranger" for Woonsocket, she also helps coordinate milk and food drives for the less fortunate. And since the park is such a central part of her life, she often organizes "lunch in the park" events for area children.
