Volunteering and being part of the solution is how we were raised. It will be a part of us until the end of our days.
Sigrid Whitman and Virginia Brant are two remarkable ladies and are co-winners of the Andrus Award given by AARP to one person in each state every year.
This year AARP broke with tradition and gave the award to both women because they work so closely together on so many projects. Sigrid and Virginia are active members of the AARP Arizona Advocacy Steering Committee, where they were instrumental in helping the state legislature enact a program that awarded $1.5 million in state funding to grandparents on fixed incomes who are raising their grandchildren. The two have also served on the AARP's Divided We Fall campaign and Health Action Now.
