When you can see the impact you have on others; it is very meaningful. You realize how blessed you are. To save even one life makes all my volunteering worthwhile.
Kathy Lentini joined a group that raised money for breast cancer detection on behalf of those who rarely sought nor could afford preventive screenings. Her motivation was to work with a group whose entire budget went covering screening costs in partnership with local hospitals. Her inspiration to volunteer in this area stems from cousins and grandmothers afflicted by breast cancer. Little did she know that during her 15-years of service as a board member of Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization (LCBCO) that she’d be fighting breast cancer herself.
Kathy always focused her energy as a board member on fundraising. Prior to joining the board Kathy volunteered for several years for LCBCO's annual Candlelight event. She is an active Annual Luncheon Committee member and concentrates on gifts for the raffle and silent auction. She does a mailing to area businesses to solicit the gifts to kick off the process. Kathy actively recruits volunteers, event participants, and in-kind services for various events benefitting LCBCO.
As a cancer survivor, Kathy was asked to join a Dragon Boat Team and recognized a new opportunity to fundraise for LCBCO. She created the PECO Power Paddler Dragon Boat Team. The team participates in an annual race and has raised more than $80,000 to date.
Kathy’s husband Daniel who works in biomedical department for an area hospital will be joining Kathy on the cruise. Ask about how they met and how he supports Kathy’s volunteer adventures!
